Virden students were awarded for their art and literary creativity and effort by Virden’s RCL No. 8.
Elroy Dooley presented prize money ($40 for first place) to winning students placing 1st to 3rd on Dec. 17.
These pieces are part of the education component for youth, sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legions throughout Canada, to provide a fundamental understanding of how Veterans defended freedom and democracy.
The winners named below have had their work displayed in Virden’s Legion Clubroom for several weeks around Remembrance Day. (There were so many good entries that the judges awarded Honourable Mentions in several classes as well.)
First Place winners at this Local competition go on to Zone, then to District and finally to Command competition if they continue to win.
The winning entries for each category at the national level are displayed at the Canadian War Museum from July 1 to May 1 of the following year.
