Rodeo action on a beautiful weekend in Oak Lake drew a crowd of competitors to the outdoor arena and their families to the stands.

Oak Lake High School Rodeo Association (OLHSRA) rodeo, held Sept. 14 and 15,has now added Manitoba Little Buckaroos Rodeo (MLBR) for kids in K-Gr.5. It is a new division of the Manitoba High School Rodeo Association (MHSRA).

Following junior high and high school action, high school competitors took over the microphone to announce for the Little Buckaroos.

President of OLHSRA Trevor Gompf says having the young kids involved is an important add-on. “The future looks good for rodeo in Manitoba as we had 43 kids entered in the Little Buckaroos which is for kids in K- Gr. 5.”

The two-day event drew competitors from all parts of Manitoba, some from Saskatchewan and even a participant from North Dakota.

Oak Lake’s rodeo grounds were redone last year to improve the facilities for this well run event. In 2020, Oak Lake will celebrate their 25th year of high school rodeo.

MHSRA rodeo was organized in the province with competitions first held at Minnedosa, Ashern, Oak Lake and Shilo.
