Dr. Ken Marshall celebrated 20 years in chiropractic practice in Virden on Aug. 8.

A group of musicians, friends from music jams, along with Ken and Catherine Marshall entertained under a huge umbrella on the hot August afternoon. Guests were treated to a barbecue, cool drinks and birthday cake.

Marshall graduated 34 years ago from life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia, USA and has had an office in Virden for 20 years.

He uses what is sometimes known as the “gentle adjustment” method.

“The chiropractic method I use is called Activator Method Chiropractic Technique. The instrument is called an activator and is all I use on people for the last 22 years,” says Marshall.

The Activator is a small handheld spring-loaded instrument which delivers a small impulse to the spine. The aim is to produce enough force to move the vertebrae but not enough to cause injury or pain.

Marshall says that the feet are the foundation for the entire body. His practice includes custom orthotics.

“With the activator I adjust the feet, but sometimes more support is required so we offer Footlevelers brand of custom fit orthotics,” he explains. “It fits in well with the Activator system of Chiropractic.”

Just over a year ago Ken and his wife Catherine moved the practice from 275 Wellington Street to a roomier location at 164 Queen Street West. Formerly the Empire-Advance office, the space was fully renovated for the chiropractor’s business, providing two treatment rooms and a large waiting room in the front portion of the building.
