A new Staff Sergeant has been assigned to Westman detachment. Staff Sgt. Colby Argue transferred to the Westman detachment from Thompson at the end of May.

Argue, now 16 years with the force, is replacing Staff Sgt. Joe Frizzley, who has been reassigned.

In his report to the Town of Virden Council meeting on June 18, he said he had come full circle. “I started my career, actually, here in Virden. I lived in Virden for almost five years. I policed the Virden, Melita, Reston area from 2003 – 2008.”

After Virden, he served in The Pas on the Plainclothes Unit and Investigations, which included Major Crimes and drug investigations.

The last four years he served in Thompson with similar duties.

Following Argue’s report to council, he was asked how Virden statistics stacked up against the work he did in Thompson.

Argue admitted he had some adjusting to do, saying that in Thompson they would receive 450 calls per week. “One shift alone saw 154 calls.” This, compared to 78 calls in a week in Virden.

He was pleased to see that according to crime statistics, Virden hasn’t changed much over the 11 years he’s been away.

Argue concluded, “I’m from a small town. It’s kind of nice to be back.”
