Everyone was grateful for the mild, calm weather last Saturday evening for Virden’s Santa Claus parade. It featured some classic entries such as the emergency vehicles and some new floats like the Dr. Seuss town of Whoville overseen by the Grinch himself.
Parade Marshall Herb Warkentin and his helper elves did an excellent job organizing the floats, preparing the route, and making sure it all went off without a hitch.
When the parade dispersed, people went downtown to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while listening to carolers at the Memory Tree light-up. The scene was especially pretty with the tree’s frost-laden boughs and everyone holding candles to light the night.
