Virden’s seventh annual Music in the Park series wrapped up last Thursday with a concert-style performance by Oak Lake’s Prairie Joe.

The five-piece country gospel band (their keyboard player was absent but a young fiddler joined them on stage) serenaded the larger-than-usual crowd with classic cover songs and some of their own compositions.

In between tunes, they praised the venue, the crowd and the absence of mosquitoes this summer.

Organizer Laurel Lamb from Prairie West Recreation said, “That’s the third time they’ve played for us in our seven years! And they’re always a crowd favorite.”

The weather was hot and still that evening, but shade from the tall trees in the park kept players and audience comfortable as the sun set on another successful season of outdoor music.

“It was a great year, and no cancellations!” said Lamb. “Hopefully see you next year.”
