Police responded to a number of assaults

Westman Detachment responded to 67 calls over the last week, between Monday, Jun. 5 and Sunday, Jun. 12, including nine traffic related offenses; three motor vehicle accidents.

June 5

A number of calls came on this day.

A complaint of drunk driving in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth was investigated, the vehicle was not found.

Responding to a report of impaired driving in Sioux Valley upon location, breath samples of the driver read more than twice the legal limit, the vehicle was seized, the driver released for court appearance.

An investigation of a complaint of assault in Melita involved youth. The investigation continues.

Investigation into an assault causing bodily harm (more than a minor injury) in Sioux valley began and is ongoing.

To assist probation services, RCMP located an individual who failed to comply with conditions, and executed a warrant.

The detachment received a report of a male, lying on Highway One 12 kms west of Virden. When located, he provided a false name. He was charged with impersonating a Peace (possibly military) Officer. The out-of-province individual was transported to Brandon Correctional Centre for a court appearance.

Police responded to a complaint in the town of Virden; an individual was charged with assault in relation to a domestic relationship.

June 6

Officers began an investigation of a complaint regarding fraud allegations, in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. The complainant received a letter from a collection service saying they owed money. The credit company claimed $10,000 was owing; the investigation is ongoing.

There was a complaint of sexual assault at Sioux Valley. The female victim was taken to hospital in Brandon for assessment and a male is facing charges of sexual assault. He was released on conditions for a court appearance.

 June 7

Two officers attended an assault with a weapon in Sioux Valley where a female was charged and released for a court appearance.

June 9

There were two break and enters in Sioux Valley – one to the gas bar in the community; another to the school saw extensive damage to two school offices that were vandalized.

June 10

The detachment received a call regarding an impaired driver in Virden, but the driver was not located.

Five officers responded to another call to an assault with a weapon in the town of Melita. The matter is still under investigation.

June 11, Police responded to a call in Sioux Valley, for an aggravated assault, where a male was struck in the head with shovel. The victim was transported to Brandon hospital by ambulance. The accused individual was located, arrested and remanded in the Brandon Correctional Centre for court appearance.
