Sunrise Credit Union recently donated $1,000 to the Reston Pipestone Pastoral Charge: (L to R) Candy Wanless, Reston Office Supervisor; Marianne Olfrey (Reston Pipestone Pastoral Change); Sherri Bartel, Reston Branch Manager.

The United Church Reston Pipestone Pastoral Charge looks after Christmas hampers for Reston, Pipestone, Sinclair and surrounding areas. Those hampers this year will look a little different as food and gift donations cannot be accepted due to the pandemic.

The Charge is collecting monetary donations to purchase food and gift vouchers from local businesses. The recipients can then redeem the vouchers to make their Christmas special.

Organizer Cathy Williamson said that some individual cash donations have been received as well as a recent donation from Sunrise Credit Union. The credit union representative said Sunrise was pleased to support this initiative as it mirrors the Credit Union value: “People Helping People.”.

For the Christmas outreach, Williamson said, “The funds from the credit union will be a big help.”

The hamper project already has had a few names submitted as recipients and by the middle of December, Williamson expects that all the names will be in and the Christmas vouchers will be dispersed.
