Reston hosts 10th Battle of the Books

Virden, Reston readers sweep the medals

On Monday, March 18, Grades 5 and 6 students from across Fort La Bosse School Division came together for Reston School’s 10th annual Battle of the Books.

The Battle is a fun, competitive approach to promote literacy. Students are required to read a minimum of seven out of ten books chosen to participate. The actual battle consists of five rounds of twenty factual questions taken from the selected books.

As the battle takes place every year around St. Patrick’s Day, there is a sea of green as everyone gathers for a morning of fun. This year, 19 teams participated from Virden Junior High, Kola, Oak Lake, Elkhorn and Reston.

Congratulations to the Little Ladies from Virden Junior High, Abbi Gilliand, Zayda Clark and Quincy Smith who were our first place winners with a total of 84 correct answers.

Second place went to the Reston team of Tylan Chalmers, Ottlie McCallum, Antonio Valeza and Noah Scheuerman, the Odd 1’s Out with a score of 79.

The Loonie Toonies Junior team of Brooke Boulton, Halle Duncan, Ty Vandenberghe and Chase Flannery, also from Reston, finished third with 72 points.
