RM of Wallace-Woodworth: Humphries

Mark Humphries running in Ward 2
Humphries
Mark Humphries, businessman/farmer near Elkhorn runs for Ward 2

I reside on the family farm and business, Westwood Ranch Garden Centre, with my wife and business partner Jill. We now have an empty nest as our children are studying at Brandon University. Jess is working towards a law degree and Thomas is working towards his PhD in computer science/math.

As a family we have joint interests. Jill and Jess share the equestrian DNA, traveling around the country competing in show jumping.

Thomas and I are the music and entertainment part of the family equation. Thomas formed his Fusion Audio Visual company while still at Elkhorn School.

I can be seen in front of my 18-pieced swing orchestra and as emcee for many events; I also do some stand up comedy on the side.

I have just completed four years as chairman of the Elkhorn Chamber and was vice-chairman for the Virden Auditorium Board.

During the fall and winter months I am a substitute teacher for Forte La Bosse School Division.

Overseas I had six years experience on council before moving the family to Canada.

The role of councillor within Wallace-Woodworth is a chance to share my entrepreneurial business experience in the hope that it will progress the RM in the future.

To keep our schools, stores and businesses busy we have to encourage long-term employment in the area.

A strong future plan for infrastructure and agricultural business is needed to help our small rural townships grow.

Encouragement to develop other sectors and use existing local businesses within the RM is fundamentally the way forward.
