Recently, Sarena Waldner, a student at Plainview Colony School, was recognized for her prose entered in the Legion’s Youth Remembrance Contest. Each fall, students across Canada have the opportunity to participate in the Royal Canadian Legion Poster/Literary contest.
Waldner won first place in the Intermediate Composition category for her piece Finding My Pride. She was presented with a certificate from the Manitoba/NW Ontario Command by Margaret James, representing Branch # 58in a presentation held at the school.
Also present was Zone 26 Commander John Stowe. Stowe congratulated Waldner and thanked all the students for their entries. He commented on the excellent quality of the students’ work in both the poster and literary categories. He also thanked the staff for their support of the contest.
Waldner’s composition went on to compete against other entries from across Canada and although she did not place at the national level, she was very proud of her accomplishment.
