Shooting in Virden draws help from major crimes unit

On Oct. 25, at approximately 6 p.m., Westman RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a shot fired into a residence located in Virden. The members were investigating the scene of a sudden death outside of Virden at the time, and immediately cleared all but one officer to attend this call with all available resources to ensure public safety.

 

The bullet entered a window and was recovered at the scene by members. No injuries were reported. Westman Detachment consulted with the RCMP major crimes unit and, Forensic Identification attended the scene to investigate.  Westman Detachment members have conducted extensive neighbourhood enquiries in order to identify any witnesses to this crime.

To date, no arrests have been made in relation to this incident and RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance to report any knowledge of who is responsible for this dangerous act. The investigation continues.

Intoxication and self-harm

During the week of Oct. 19th to Oct. 25th the Westman RCMP dealt with 65 police activities.

Oct. 19 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an assault. Subsequent to investigation, a 34-year-old female was arrested and charged for assault and mischief. The female was remanded into custody.

Oct. 19 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person threatening self-harm. The individual was arrested as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was put in touch with mobile crisis the following morning.

Oct. 19 - RCMP were dispatched to Virden for a report of an intoxicated person threatening self-harm. The person was located and transported to the hospital for further assistance.

Oct. 20 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person threatening-self harm. The individual was arrested as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was put in touch with mobile crisis the following morning.

Oct. 20 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person walking on the road. Information was also received that the individual threatened self-harm. He was located and transported to the Brandon Hospital for assistance.

Oct. 21 - RCMP were dispatched to Oak Lake Beach for a report of a break and enter to a residence. Approximately $2500 worth of content was stolen. The matter is still under investigation.

Oct. 22 - RCMP were dispatched to Virden for a report of an individual threatening self-harm. Police attended and convinced the person in distress go to the hospital with her family.

Oct. 22 - RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person who was refusing to leave a residence. The person also made threats to commit self-harm. The individual was arrested as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was released in the morning after receiving medial assistance.

Oct. 23 - RCMP were dispatched to the RM of Wallace-Woodworth to conduct a well-being check. Police located the person safe and asleep at his parents’ residence.

Oct. 24 - RCMP were dispatched to Virden for a report of an individual threatening to commit self-harm. The individual was located and transported to the hospital for further assistance.

A total of two COVID compliance checks, and 13 traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period.
