Sports Shorts: Toder commits to RDC

Elkhorn’s Layne Toder has committed to study and play hockey next season at Red Deer College. The son of Jolene and Curtis Toder has applied to the school’s aviation program.

Elkhorn’s Layne Toder has committed to study and play hockey next season at Red Deer College. The son of Jolene and Curtis Toder has applied to the school’s aviation program. He spent his successful junior career with the Western Hockey League’s Calgary Hitmen and Portage Terriers and the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

 

Lewis Achieves

Virden’s Braeden Lewis received the Swift Current Broncos Scholastic Achievement award. The son of Dale and Tracy Lewis was praised for staying “laser-focused on finishing his school work” while the team played 24 games in 47 days in a hub. The 17-year-old rookie had two goals and four assists in 19 games for the Broncos.

Joseph Wins

Elkhorn’s Colby Jospeh helped the Victoria Grizzlies win the British Columbia Hockey League’s Island Division.

Playing in a hub in Port Alberni, the Grizzlies posted a 14-6-0-0 record. The son of Dawn and Gord Joseph, a first-year forward, recorded one goal in 10 games.

Geekie Recognized

After starting the campaign with the Virden Oil Capitals, Strathclair’s Conor Geekie succeeded in the Western Hockey League’s Regina hub.

In his 16-year-old season, the Winnipeg Ice rookie forward had nine goals and 23 points in 24 games. He was named the team’s Rookie of the Year. As well, Geekie was selected as the WHL Rookie of the Month for April. He posted 15 points, including six goals, in 14 games during that month.
