Tara Cowan: Candidate profile

Virden mayoral candidate
cowan
Tara Cowan, for Virden councillor

I am 32 years old, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have two sisters, three nieces and a nephew. Family means a lot in my life. I moved to Virden about six years ago and have always thought that I had a lot to offer this town.

I have over ten years’ experience in Municipal government in two provinces; I am very passionate about recreation and quality of life. I am the Recreation and Facility Manager for the RM of Pipestone/ Pipestone Albert Recreation Commission and sit on the Recreation Connections Manitoba Board as a Director. I enjoy volunteering at various events for community organizations and have coached a few different sports in my life. Over the years I have obtained many leadership skills that I now want to use to create a better place to live for the citizens of Virden. I have a certificate in Community Development/ Community Economic Development from Red River College, I feel this is a great asset as a councillor.

I would like to stay on council as I feel that over the last four years I have learned a great deal of knowledge and understanding for the position. My experience in Municipal Government and education make me a great candidate for the position of Town Councillor. There are a number of projects that are currently being worked on such as Dennis County Partnership, Downtown Boost and the Highway 83 Access Study that I would love to continue to be part of as I feel I can bring great ideas to the table.
