One of the best things about living in Virden is that there are so many fun activities that youth can get involved in.

One of those will be coming soon to the Aud Theatre on March 3 and 4 - the Virden and District Youth Choir is putting together a production of The Little Mermaid Jr, a musical that is based on the very popular Disney movie released in 1989.

Our directors, Susan Martens and Kelsey Brown, have been doing a fantastic job of working with these kids and helping them to the best that they can be. We have been blessed with so many talented young actors and actresses and they are all doing remarkably well.

Leading the cast, we have Daelyn Fefchak as Ariel joined by Evan Terin and Dylan Southam sharing the role of Prince Eric. These three grade nine students are extremely motivated and they bring their enthusiasm to every rehearsal. It’s really infectious for all involved and they serve as wonderful role models for the younger members of the cast.

Some other prominent roles include Avrin Krieser and Mason Lamb as Sebastian,Charley Dunning and Amelia Penner as Flounder, and Rori Jacobson as the evil Ursula. They all bring a unique energy to their characters and it’s really fun to watch. Sebastian and Flounder will leave you laughing at their antics and Ursula will be the villain that you love to hate.

Of course there’s so much more than just the characters that go into making a successful show and we have a great team of parent volunteers helping us out. They have been taking charge and getting everything put together when it comes to sets, props, costumes, and more. We are so thankful to have their help and support because without them we wouldn’t be able to put together such an amazing show.

This is now my third year helping as assistant director in the youth choir musical and it’s been one of the best experiences of my life. It’s so rewarding to work with such amazing people and to see all of the talent that these kids have.

It’s hard work to put together a production like this but in the end, it is all worth it. So I encourage you all to come out and see this fun adventure under the sea.

Tickets are available at Flower Attic & Gifts. This is a show that you won’t want to miss!
