The winners of Manitoba’s Rural Northern Art Show are announced

Despite the global pandemic, Since September, the online world had the opportunity to take in the best contemporary visual art from across Manitoba, with this year’s Manitoba Rural Northern Juried Art Show.

From Westman, Central, Eastman, Interlake, Northern, and Parkland areas of the province 56 artists are featured, hosted entirely online.

To allow the public to participate during the online exhibition, audiences had access to view the artwork and purchase works 24/7 with new Manitoba Artwork’s 2020 programming.

Artworks covered a diverse range of media, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and textiles.

Further, the audience was able to vote for MRNJA’s Voter’s Choice Awards. From Sept. 3 through to Oct. 20 the public was invited to vote for artworks in the exhibition.

After closing voting on Oct. 20, over 8,000 members of the public contributed to the Voter’s Choice Awards from within Manitoba, nationally, and internationally from areas such as Brazil. During the MRNJAS Zoom Launch Party on Oct. 22nd, Manitoba Arts Network announced the winners of the Voter’s Choice Awards:

First place, 2698 votes, a graphite piece called Karen by Rosimeire Anjos of Flin Flon.

Second, 2315 votes, multimedia work with birch plywood, pyrography, airbrushed in India ink - Hero by Brad Mummery of Neepawa.

Third, 2027 votes, Through the good times and bad photography by Brandy Bloxom from Denare Beach, Sask.

The Manitoba Rural Northern Juried Art Show will remain available to the public until Jan. 6, including the option to purchase artwork at https://artgallery.manitobaartsnetwork.ca
