Cory Barkley of the Wellview Golf Course fundraising committee says the new clubhouse should be finished in a month or so. Not soon enough to go into use this year, but it will be ready for spring.
He recently got a $10,000 handshake from Mayor Jeff McConnell representing a donation from the Town of Virden. It will go towards construction of the new clubhouse.
McConnell defended the gift, saying, "We need quality of life indicators. Having a golf course ensures people want to move here."
