Town of Virden celebrates 2019 at Christmas Banquet

A Christmas Banquet marked the year-end, as councillors, Town staff, volunteers and invited elected officials from surrounding municipalities gathered in TOG, Sunrise CU Hall on Dec. 7.

A Christmas Banquet marked the year-end, as councillors, Town staff, volunteers and invited elected officials from surrounding municipalities gathered in TOG, Sunrise CU Hall on Dec. 7.

Deputy Mayor Tina Williams opened the evening, and served as Master of Ceremonies.

Mayor Murray Wright thanked the office staff for their work in arranging this event, complete with awards, service recognition, door prizes and games - topped off with a buffet meal.

MLA Greg Nesbit attended and he paid dues to the municipal government saying, “They’re the first line of government for their citizens. As a government, we certainly rely on our municipalities.”

The Town bid farewell to Dale Wallace, formerly head of the waterworks department. Also, Jesus Olivia was thanked for his service as he also leaves civic employment. 

Mike Plantinga, who has served five years with the public works dept. has recently moved into the Waterworks Department replacing Johnny Lee Co, who recently retired from the position of operator. 

Employee Floyd Houston received 10-year recognition.

A new confidential secretary for the Town office, Jill Wolfe, was introduced.
