Awards were presented in over 20 categories at the Sports & Citizenship Awards night, Thursday, June 20,in Virden Collegiate gym.

A highlight was a new award in honour of teacher Daniel Brick, who passed away suddenly last fall. This was awarded to a graduate student exhibiting a strong work ethic in both academic and extracurricular areas, and who was, in Principal Mark Keown’s words, “a friend to everyone.”

In memory of their son, Gerry and Sharon Brick presented this award to Emily Cochrane.

Other awards included student philanthropy funds dispersed to three local causes and the VCI Alumni Wall of Fame award.

Junior and senior varsity sports awards were presented. Student efforts on Student Council, Grad committee, Keychain fundraisers, Teens Against Drunk Driving, the Social Justice and Mental Wellness committees were also recognized.
