All that's left of the Farmhouse Bistro & Tavern is the sign that rises above the Virden Motel and a pile of rubble.

Vacant for over three years, with no buyer stepping up, the Farmhouse Bistro & Tavern was knocked to the ground on Monday, Nov. 4.

The troubled restaurant closed in early 2016 after only a few years in business and never re-opened. The Town of Virden took possession of the property during the tax sale process and was told by consultants that it contained hazardous materials. Based on those reports, the Town decided it should be demolished.

Asbestos remediation was done before demolition.
