Virden’s newest event is all about community

When Liza Park heard that country singer Brett Kissel was coming to Virden she knew she had to make him part of her event, Virden’s first ever Community Expo.

So Virden’s Economic Development Manager snapped up two tickets to his November show at the Aud and added them to her stash of door prizes that will be up for grabs at the Expo, this Wednesday evening at TOGP.

Park says the Expo is just one of the ideas put forward by the Virden Boost committee as a way to increase volunteerism and shine a spotlight on the many non-profit organizations in the community.

“I feel the launch of this event is important to create an opportunity for networking, building relationships and learning.”

Winners of the Town of Virden’s photography contest will also be announced at the Expo. Park says 33 pictures were entered and Arts Mosaic is doing the judging. A total of $500 will be awarded.

“Sometimes we forget all the organizations we have and the great work they do. Volunteers and organizations are what make a community great and we have great things happening here, let’s celebrate those and stay engaged with each other, only good things can come from that.”

The Expo is free to exhibitors and the public Sept. 26, 7 – 9 p.m. at TOGP.
