Virden students write to soldiers

The Westman Area RCMP were overwhelmed with the response when we invited local elementary schools in the Westman Area to spread some Holiday Cheer.

Goulter, Mary Montgomery, Melita, Reston, Pierson, Elkhorn, and Oak Lake students made cards and letters for soldiers of the Canadian Armed Forces ... 498 to be exact! These were collected and our mini assembly line got them ready to mail.

Over 100 pieces of mail were forwarded to local Shilo soldiers RCHA 1 (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery) who will be deployed on Avalanche Control duty in B.C. over the Christmas Holidays. The remaining cards and letters were forwarded to Belleville, ON to be sent to serving members on other deployments throughout the world.

The cards and letters were great, thanking soldiers for their service and even including some funny jokes... Where does a snowman go to dance? The SNOW BALL!

A huge Thank You to our local schools for their involvement in our initiative to spread some Holiday Cheer.
