WDFD busy weekend with fire and accidents

Wallace District Fire Department served the public through six calls over the past three days. On Thursday, May 6, at 3:30 p.m. an electrical panel feeding a Corex pump jack just off Commonwealth Drive arched out and caused a grass fire.

On Thursday, May 6, at 3:30 p.m. an electrical panel feeding a Corex pump jack just off Commonwealth Drive arched out and caused a grass fire. The grass fire was quickly brought under control. MB Hydro attended to disconnect power to the electrical panel.

May 7, at 1 p.m.  a passerby reported an unknown fire west and south of Virden. It turned out to be a control burn in the RM of Pipestone where there is no burn ban currently.

On May 7, at 3:46 p.m. in the afternoon the department attended a two-vehicle accident at Hwy 1 and PTH 83 Highway. A west-bound SUV struck a pickup truck that was crossing Hwy 1. The injuries were minor.

May 7, 4:26 p.m. the fire department responded to a tractor fire four miles west of Virden. The tractor was destroyed and there was a small field fire as a result as well.

May 8, 5:28 a.m. Two semis collided on Hwy1, just four miles east of Virden. One semi had pulled over to the shoulder but not far enough. A second semi hit the back end of it but swerved at the last moment. No injuries.

On Saturday, May 8, at 3:41 p.m. the department helped Virden EMS with a lift of a patient.
