Virden Curling Club Teams Kinnaird and Freeman are battling to win their first draws. Out of the hack, each team was down 3-0. End two, Freeman came back to score 2, but Smith got 2 on end three. Kinnaird won end three with a single point. Lyburn was sitting with 3 points from their first end.

Darcy Hayward curling third with Dean North, in the first draw at 4 p.m. Wednesday is down 4 after the third end.

Branden Jorgensen is curling with Team Marnoch. They won their Wednesday draw against Mark Lukawich 9-3. Marnoch curls at 8:30 Thursday.

Top seeds in this year’s event are defending champion Mike McEwen (Reid Carruthers as third), followed by Jason Gunnlaugson, Tanner Horgan, Braden Calvert and William Lyburn respectively.

The winner of the Feb 5 – 9 Viterra bonspiel at the Eric Coy Arena, will represent Manitoba in the Tim Hortons Brier in Kingston, Ont.

Hamiota’s Travis Brookes, throwing second with Team Steve Irwin, stayed on the A-side following a tight game in Wednesday’s first draw. Irwin won 6 - 5 in 10 ends over Jeff Stewart (Gladstone).
