My name is Whitney Wright, I'm 29 years old and I'm an environmental scientist working at Matrix Solutions in Virden, MB. I have a spouse and a one-year-old daughter. I'm on numerous volunteer committees in Virden - I'm president of the Virden Spray Park Committee, board member of the Virden and Area Daycare Committee and Manitoba Oil Producer's Spill Coop and I organize a volunteer spring cleaning for the town of Virden.
I'm honest, fair, and more than willing to listen to other's opinions.
I am eager to see Virden grow as a leader to other communities. I would like us to have amenities that help attract families to the town as well as have good social/recreational support for our seniors. I would like to improve on our infrastructure like water/sewer, roads and snow clearing and work on creating sustainable and realistic maintenance budgets. I have experience with managing large budgets through my career and I believe Virden has the opportunity for improvement in this area.
I want to be a councillor because I am passionate about our town. I get very inspired when our town rallies together during times of crisis (flooding, snow storms, fires) and I'm excited to carry that passion through to the good things that happen within our community, not only the unfortunate events. I think people should use their "complaining" for good and try to better that around them instead of expecting others to do it for them.
