The first meeting of the Southwest Assiniboine Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba was held at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, April 16. A delicious lunch was served by the Roman Catholic ladies.

Each meeting we have a guest speaker or entertainment. Riley Jorgensen, a capable and accomplished violinist, delighted the crowd with several waltzes, jigs and reels.

Riley, 12, is the son of Jeff and Jan Marie Jorgensen. Taking weekly lessons in Brandon, Riley is already well-known and has played at many events.

Retired Teachers support the Food Cupboard at each meeting.

After lunch, a short meeting was held. Plans were made for the annual general meeting which will be held at the Clarion Hotel (Winnipeg), May 7 and 8.

Kel Smith, our travel director updated the members regarding the Rainbow Stage presentation, Strike! The Musical, which we will be attending, June 26, at Rainbow Stage. (Strike! is based on true events and staged on the 100th anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike.)

one hundred years to the day of the climactic conclusion of the Winnipeg General Strike,

Smith says he has sold a number of tickets but there are still plenty available. The price includes a package deal – transportation, meals and more.
