Winnipeg – SAFE Work Manitoba is partnering with the Manitoba Farm Safety Program to bring the annual farm safety drawing contest to young Manitobans ages six to 12.

The contest asks kids to submit a picture that shows how to find a safer way when faced with one of four common hazards on the farm:

  • livestock
  • grain
  • farm equipment
  • chemicals

“This contest is a wonderful opportunity for young Manitobans to share their own knowledge of farm safety and educate others on the importance of being aware while on the farm,” said Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler.

In 2017, the contest received more than 260 entries from children from all parts of the province and this year will run again until April 20, 2018.

All eligible entries will be entered into a draw to win an iPad, and drawings will also be chosen for the 2019 SAFE Work Manitoba farm safety calendar.

"The Manitoba Farm Safety Program is committed to keeping our next generation of farmers safe and it starts with identifying the hazards on the farm and taking steps to make our province's farms safer for the entire family," said Keith Castonguay, Executive Director, Manitoba Farm Safety Program.

Contact SAFE Work Manitoba to order free supplies: a poster to promote the contest, copies of the entry form, a self-addressed envelope to collect entries and submit them to SAFE Work Manitoba, and a package of pencil crayons (limit one per organization) to give as a prize to children who participate in the contest.
