Portage la Prairie RCMP investigate abduction and forcible confinement

On March 15, 2019, at approximately 2:30 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call from a 29-year-old female indicating that she had just managed to escape a male who had abducted her.

The investigation has determined that the female was walking on Crescent Avenue West in Portage la Prairie at approximately 12:30 pm when a male in a blue Toyota car with rust over the rear passenger wheel, pulled up along side the female. The male, who appeared to be in his 50’s, asked for directions and then forced the female into the front passenger seat.

The suspect then drove the female down some back roads before the female was able to convince the suspect to take her to a restaurant in Portage la Prairie. While in the restaurant, the female was able to distance herself from the suspect and sought help from a customer. The customer got the victim to safety and police were called.

The suspect is believed to be approximately 50-years-old, wearing a grey sweater or hoody, a green hat and possibly green pants at the time of the abduction. A photo of the suspect is attached.

The RCMP is asking anyone who may have been a witness to this incident or may have information to immediately contact the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445 or call Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Secure online tips can also be made at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
