Sandy Bay stabbing incident

In the early morning hours on Feb. 27, Manitoba First Nations Police Service Officers were called to a residence on Sandy Bay First Nation. A fight was in progress where it was reported that a person had been stabbed.

In the early morning hours on Feb. 27, Manitoba First Nations Police Service Officers were called to a residence on Sandy Bay First Nation. A fight was in progress where it was reported that a person had been stabbed.

 

Upon arrival at the residence, Police found a male suspect to be possession of a knife. Officers took action and were able to safely secure the weapon and take the suspect into custody without incident.

A 26-year-old male victim suffered stab wounds to his head and was airlifted by STARS to the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg, where he was treated for his injuries. The victim was later reported to be in stable condition.

Further investigation revealed that there were three other victims also suffering from stab wounds. The subsequent victims were treated at the hospital for their injuries that were deemed to be non-life threatening in nature.

At this time, a 28-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation has been charged with Assault with a Weapon and was released to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation continues and further charges are pending.
