The Council of Prairie View Municipality held their regular meeting on April 27, with Councillors and staff meeting in person in the Miniota chambers. After some housekeeping, the regular meeting was paused and the public hearing to review the proposed 2021 Financial Plan and tax levy requirements was opened via Zoom. One member of the public attended.
The CAO noted that the financial plan was available to the public on the municipal website. From that document, you can select to view either the complete financial plan or the PowerPoint presented at the hearing.
Single family residential, farms and commercial/ industrial property have increased assessments over last year with an increase of over $2 million from 2020. Some of the implications of the provincial government’s move to phase out Education Property Tax were presented. After dealing with a question from the public regarding sidewalk and pavement renewal in Birtle, the hearing ended and the regular meeting resumed.
In this part of the meeting councillors approved a contract for dust control, as well as signing expansions to the lease agreements with Tundra Oil and Gas and Vermillion Energy.
Vacant lots in Prairie View communities are available at one cent per square foot. Council approved the sale of one package in Birtle for $ $96.39 plus GST. The purchaser is responsible for all legal costs in connection with the purchase and transfer of land.
The 2021 Tax Levy by-law to set the 2021 municipal levies was given third and final reading and passed unanimously. The council wrapped up the meeting by establishing policies for attendance and for those who must work alone.
