Hole-in-one

An Oil Slick

Hole in One

There was a hole in one recorded at the Virden Wellview Golf Course last week on the par three, 150 yard seventh hole that was witnessed by Art Chacun and Howard Hole. Modesty prevents me from revealing who that lucky swinger is but let me assure you that his second ace was just as sweet as his first one, a distant 35 years ago at the Tamarack in Clear Lake. Whoever said you had to be good at a sport to enjoy success obviously didn't know what they were talking about.

SWBL Playoffs

The Boissevain Centennials have punched their ticket to play in the league finals after sweeping the Deloraine Royals in a series much closer than anticipated. But they'll have to wait a few days to see who their opposition is.

The Oak River Dodgers are currently up two games to one in their match up with the Hamiota Red Sox and if they can win game four in OR, they'll host the deciding game on Friday. If not, then the final should start Friday or early next week in Boissevain.

RBC Canadian Open

After being somewhat embarrassed by not making the cut across the pond at The Open, the number one golfer in the world, DJ (Dustin Johnson), decided enough was enough as he bore down and proceeded to show the world why he is indeed worthy of that title.

His tremendous distance off the tee box and his dialed-in wedge game showed little mercy for his opposition as he won it going away. Although no Canadian won, (no one has since 1954), many were in the thick of things for a while including Mackenzie Hughes and Ryan Yip, with the former finishing tied for eighth place, a very respectable showing.

Osuna Gone

As predicted, it was only a matter of time before Blue Jays' star reliever Roberto Osuna would be traded and as if on cue, he's officially off to Texas, specifically the Houston Astros where he will shine brightly in the Lone Star state. Although not eligible to return to action until this Sunday because of his 75-day suspension imposed by MLB for domestic violence, the change of address was a no brainer and unfortunately for not only this great game but the others as well, this type of behaviour is sadly becoming far too common in our society in this day and age. Why has man's respect for his fellow human beings degenerated to such a low?

More NFL Hurt

The NFL just can't seem to "stay out of their own way" as more controversies follow the league almost every week. Just when everyone thought peace and harmony had been restored after a tumultuous last season plagued by the infamous national anthem fiasco (all started by Colin Kaepernick taking a knee), along comes another head scratcher. As a side note, after the Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones told the media that ALL his players would stand with their toes on the sidelines and that no one would be allowed to stay in the dressing room, the Pinocchio President had to stick his nose into the fray and say all teams should adopt this position. Needless to say the powerful NFLPA was not in agreement, voiced their concerns and now all parties have been told to "zip it" by the league office until a solution to this mess can be worked out. Is this even possible?

League officials have been going around to all the NFL camps trying to explain the new helmet-to-helmet contact rule that is supposed to eliminate or at least greatly reduce head injuries and concussions but at every stop, confusion reigns supreme. Nobody seems to really understand the rule with the clarification and explanation of it being supposedly murky at best and this is all leading to some nasty verbal exchanges between players and the league office, and that's never a good thing.

Until next time....
