Federal Conservative leader on Trudeau's budget

O’Toole decries federal tax

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives and the Official Opposition, issued the following statement calling on Justin Trudeau to reverse his tax increases on Canadians:

“Today, Justin Trudeau has once again made the decision to raise taxes on Canadians during the pandemic and recession.

“Under Trudeau, Canada’s unemployment rate is among the highest in the G-7 and we are experiencing the worst economic growth since the great depression. Now is not the time to raise taxes on Canadians. It’s shameful that Justin Trudeau thinks it is.

“The obsession of Justin Trudeau raising taxes on Canadians during the pandemic and the economic downturn needs to end. Canadians are hurting and businesses are closing. Now is not the time to take more of their hard-earned money.

“Conservatives believe in cutting taxes, not raising them like the Trudeau Liberals. You cannot tax your way into economic prosperity – something that Justin Trudeau has yet to figure out.

“Conservatives are calling on the Trudeau Liberals to reverse these harmful tax increases on Canadians. We will continue to focus on keeping taxes low, creating jobs, and securing our economy. That is our promise to Canadians.”
