Letter: Gas Explosion

I, along with most of those in Virden last Friday, felt the concussion from the gas explosion on Thompson Pl.

I, along with most of those in Virden last Friday, felt the concussion from the gas explosion on Thompson Pl. I walked the block or so to see what had happened and saw a house fully engulfed in flames and the police and fire department and paramedics moving quickly to save life and limb, as well as property.

I’ve had the opportunity over the years to witness this on a number of occasions, what with floods, tornadoes, and last Friday’s explosion and fire.

These are well-trained and courageous men and women who run towards danger and put their lives on the line for the rest of us and they are to be commended. Particularly the police and fire fighters who, without regard for their own safety, rescued the person trapped in the basement of the house that exploded, as fire raged around them.

Their names should be sent forward for special recognition for their courageous and selfless act of bravery.
