Starting on Friday, October 5th WestJet and Air Canada airlines are increasing the cost of their baggage fees on all of their checked luggage.

As a result, travellers can expect to pay $30 for the first checked bag instead of $25. For the second checked bag travellers will pay $50 instead of the $30 they payed before.

While the cost of domestic travel may already be considered steep by locals, these changes will make travel more cost.

oth airlines have indicated that they are raising the cost of checked baggage in order to offer more competitive ticket prices. They argue that people can opt to bring a carry-on with them instead, which will allow them to save on costs.

With that being said, this may not be possible for people who plan on staying in their destination for longer than a short visit.

Air Canada has also stated that this is the first time that they’ve raised prices since 2014, and mentioned that the costs of fuel have also increased.
