Christine Sinclair, along with Emma Regan and Julia Grosso, will lead the local charge for Canada to kick off the CONCACAF women's championships this weekend in Texas.

Burnaby will have a presence like few others at this week’s CONCACAF women’s soccer championships in Texas.

And, for two of the players, it will be like every game’s a home game.

Led by national team captain Christine Sinclair, the Canadian roster also includes fellow Burnaby native Emma Regan, 18, as well as Vancouver-born and former Burnaby minor soccer player Julia Grosso.

Sinclair, of course, is considered among the game’s best players and will be playing her 270th international game on Friday in the opener.

She sits second among all-time international scorers with 173 goals.

Regan, a fullback, and Grosso, a midfielder, are products of the Whitecaps FC Super REX program, and are both first-year student athletes at the University of Texas.

Canada’s first game is Friday against Jamaica. Their pool also includes Cuba and Coasta Rica.
