Young students perform above provincial levels

Healthy Child Manitoba’s Early Development Instrument Report was recently released, and children in Flin Flon are performing around and above the provincial norm.

The study measures physical health and well being, social competence, emotional maturity, language and thinking skills, and communication skills and general knowledge in kindergarten students.

Flin Flon students show an average score higher than the provincial average in the areas of social competence and language and thinking skills, and a large proportion of students show the same range of scores found in the top thirtieth percentile of the Canadian baseline sample.

Scores listed in the most recent report for Flin Flon are comparable to scores for the previous year.

“Kids in the Flin Flon area…are performing as they did last year, which was certainly at the provincial norm, if not higher,” said Constance McLeese, superintendent for the Flin Flon School Division.
