A mainstay highway stop on the Hanson Lake Road has been heavily damaged after a Dec. 19 fire.
The store at Bloomfield’s Resort, located along Highway 106 about 130 kilometres from Flin Flon, caught fire in the early hours of the morning and was at least partially destroyed in the blaze. No injuries were reported in the fire.
“It is with heavy, heavy hearts that we announce the burning of our store last night. Thankfully, everyone is ok,” said a statement issued on the resort's Facebook page.
“This is an extremely sad day for us. We have so many great memories of a place that brought so many people together.”
The resort is located on Ballantyne Bay on Deschambault Lake, about 50 kilometres away from the community of Deschambault Lake. First opening in the 1970s, Bloomfield’s consists of the store, restaurant and bar, cabins and boat rental service.
“We are so very saddened to wake up to the news that we have lost Bloomfield’s resort,” read a statement issued by another Highway 106 stop and common stop for travellers, the Caribou Creek Lodge.
“Our thoughts go out to Gary [Bloomfield] and his family. We have worked alongside the Bloomfield’s family for many years and share many great memories.”
It is unclear to what extent the other services at Bloomfield’s will continue operating, but the statement issued on behalf of the business was optimistic.
“There is always hope! We have a strong fishing community at our backs and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers,” it read.
