The Southwest Cougars had a productive weekend (Nov. 9th and 10th) picking up a pair of wins before they head out on the weekend to Parkland and Norman hoping for another successful weekend.

They hosted the Eastman Selects on Saturday night and trailed from the first period, falling behind 4-2 in the third before knotting the game, and then winning it in overtime.

The Selects opened the scoring before Andrew Andries evened the score with a goal as the first period ended. The Selects scored early in the second for the lead before Luke Robson hooked up with Colten Miller and Zach Turner just 16 minutes into the period.

The Selects pumped in a couple of goals early in the third and looked to have the game under control. Jacob Dolomont teamed up with Brayden Knox and Nolan Wickham 11 minutes into the period. Trevor Hunt then scored an unassisted marker to even the score at the 16-minute mark sending the game to overtime.

Cody Gudnason then took matters into his hands and scored a beauty for the game winner in the third minute. Eric Reid turned aside 20 shots for the win.

Sunday afternoon the Cougars visited the Central Plains and earned a convincing win. The Cougars had period leads of 3-0 and 6-0 before they gave up a goal in the third, breaking Kieran Stewart’s shutout bid with 18 saves for the win.

Miller led the way with a pair of goals with Andries and Robson assisting. Hunter Wallace had a two-goal game as well with a pair of unassisted markers. Myles Sobry hooked up with Gudnason and Nolan Wickham picking up the apples; and Gudnason teamed up with Mathew Ramsey and Hunt to finish the offense.

The Cougars improved to 8 wins, 6 losses and an overtime loss for 17 points and fifth place. Now, they’re off to Parkland, Friday night before heading to Norman for a pair of weekend tilts.
