Oil Caps This Week

On Friday August 21, 19-year-old Dylan Cusmano, former Dryden Ice Dog from the SIJHL league, has been picked up by the Virden Oil Capitals.

According to the Oil Capitals website, Troy Leslie, GM and Head Coach stated, “Dylan will provide us with some character and grit up front.”

The 19-year-old Abbottsford, BC product dressed in 39 games with Dryden in the 2014-2015 season. In those 39 games, Cusmano notched 10 goals and 11 assists for his team.

Leslie stated, “He is a team first kind of guy, who plays a hard 200- foot game.”

The new additions keep rolling in for the Caps as they add former Melville Millionaires goaltender Ryan Potter to the coaching staff as a goaltender coach. According to the Oil Capitals website, Potter stated, “[It’s] a thrill to join the Oil Capitals and work with Troy and Chad. There is a great thing going here and to be able to do it in my home community where I work and live is even better.”

Potter brings a lot of experience to the table for the Oil Capitals. From 1992-1995 he played in the SJHL with the Millionaires and one year in the AJHL with Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

After Potter hung up the skates, he continued in the sport he loves. He has worked numerous goaltending clinics and schools, helping young goalies achieve their goals.

Potter comments, “[I’m] excited to get back on the ice and work with guys on a 1 on 1 level and build on their strengths and work towards everyday improvement” said Potter.

He has also spent time being a regional scout and goaltending consultant for the Dauphin Kings.
