This year’s Bantam AAA team is coached by Travis McColl of Elkhorn and Shawn Maddess of Deloraine.

This is their second year coaching together, after having a successful 2018 advancing from Peewee provincials to Western Canadians. Maddess and McColl wanted to take on the effort to lead Oildome back down that same path.

It’s a big commitment to be part of a AAA program. The team is made up of players from the Oildome league. This year’s team sees players from Boissevain, Deloraine, Virden, and Elkhorn.

We started our season mid-June giving players time to develop their skills with their respective home teams. The Oildome “Riggers” debut tournament was the Triple Crown Showdown in Brandon on July long weekend. They came out of that tournament with a 2-2 record showing that they were ready to compete.

With some hard work set ahead to prepare for Provincial Qualifiers in Altona, they focused on practice and skill development. At Qualifiers with a plan to be top 6 out of 8 teams the Oildome Riggers battled their way to a 4th place spot and are heading in to Provincials August long weekend at St.James Optimist Park in Winnipeg to compete for the Provincial AAA Championship. The winner will advance to Western Canadians in Lloydminster, Sk.

Coach McColl stated that the team has come together really well and all aspects of the game have improved. We are hitting the ball good, our fielding has really tightened up, and our pitching is strong.

This team has shown that they are ready to represent Oildome. Go, Riggers, Go!
