Kola’s Dustin Siemens loves the challenge of being a running back for the Westman Wolverines.

“The thing I enjoy most is running all over a defence - making it feel like you can’t be stopped,” he said.

The son of Kelvin and Pat Siemens was a key player for the Brandon-based Wolverines in the fall of 2017. He helped the team make the Manitoba Major Junior Football League playoffs after it failed to qualify the past three seasons.

The Wolverines secured a postseason berth with a win over the North Winnipeg Nomads. In that contest, Siemens had five runs of 10-plus yards and finished with 67 yards on seven carries.

“Felt awesome”

“It felt awesome beating the Nomads and making the playoffs after the team not making playoffs since 2013,” Siemens said.

Last season was Siemens’ second with the team. He plans to be back for a third in 2018. Siemens has been a versatile contributor for the Wolverines.

Elusive Runner

“He is a very elusive runner, who has a great ability to make defenders miss, and rarely gets brought down by the first tackle attempt,” Westman head coach Brady Dane said.

“He also has excellent hands, which gives him the flexibility to flex out and line up at a receiver. As well, Dusty is a very important contributor on our special teams units, both on return teams catching punts and kicks, and on the coverage teams as a tackler.”

Siemens said he enjoyed going to Brandon and playing football with all of the guys. The Wolverines included former Virden Collegiate Institute teammates Nathan Price, Wyatt Wilson, and Tre Panachyse.

VCI Quartet

“It’s awesome being able to play football for more years with Nathan, Wyatt and Tre,” Siemens said.

He also appreciates the support of his family.

“They've supported me so much over my football career - showing up to almost every football game I’ve ever played in,” said Siemens, who works on the family farm.
