Skate Virden competitors did very well at the Skate Canada Manitoba figure skating championships last weekend.
At the Winnipeg event, Megan Dryden won the juvenile women’s U12 category. She also teamed with Wyatt James of the Carmen Skating Club to win the pre-novice pairs.
Both will represent Manitoba in pairs at the Skate Canada Challenge Competition in Edmonton later this month.
Also in Winnipeg, Skate Virden’s Shanna Yaskow placed second in pre-novice women. Fellow Skate Virden competitor Charlotte Little was second in junior women.
Breken Brezden of Skate Dauphin won the novice women singles category and will compete in Edmonton. She is coached by Virden’s Patty Hole, who also trains Dryden.
Hole, who praised the performance of all her skaters at provincials, also coaches the pre-juvenile pairs team of Ainslee McGregor and Seoul Tilokani. The duo, competing for the Waskada Figure Skating Club, won their category with an impressive performance.
“I love it when they can step it up,” Hole said.
