That’s a wrap for 2019 volleyball!

Club West looks back on an unforgettable season

Club West Volleyball has wrapped up its club season for 2019, a season filled with many successes and improvements.

All of the teams had successful seasons and were competitive throughout. We had two 14U teams this year, one based out of Deloraine called Club West South and one out of Virden called Club West Rage. South ended up 12th in provincials and Rage finished 19th out of 26 teams. From start of season to the end, both teams improved greatly and competed hard in every match.

In the 15U category, Club West also had two teams: Smash and Rage. Smash, lead by Breann Chapman, always played very hard and were competitive but struggled to put teams away at times. Although consistency was their biggest issue, they improved greatly over the season. Rage won the 15U provincials and followed that up with a 5th place finish at nationals out of 156 teams.

In the 16U category, the girls had a very good season, at times splitting and playing as two teams. The girls lost the provincial final in an exciting three-game match to the eventual national champions out of Winnipeg.

The Rage team had a good national championship finishing 11th out of 148 teams. A screw-up from Volleyball Canada took away a much-needed win on power pool play on the second day and prevented the girls from getting into the top eight. Very successful and fun season for them.

The 17U team was made up of the 16U team while adding Amy Lewis, Quincy Flecknor and Ashley Reid to the team. The team had an excellent season competing strongly in several tournaments and surprising a lot of the top teams in that category.

The ladies finished 4th in provincials but did so without our middles, which was a huge accomplishment. The girls the previous weekend defeated the provincial champs. Special thank you to three girls for playing with our 16s this year.

On a special note, thanks to the coaches Erin Draper, Jason Claeys, Val Franklin, Kristy Henry, Curtis Plett, Hayley Densmore and Stephen Densmore.

Coach Densmore will be inducted in the Manitoba Volleyball Hall of Fame on June 9 in the builder category.
