Virden’s Rayna Schwalm will be a Cougar this coming fall.

The Virden Collegiate Institute student has committed to play for the Assiniboine Community College women’s volleyball team next season. She plans to study early childhood education at the Brandon school.

VCI teacher John Chandler coached Schwalm throughout her high school volleyball career.

“She is a great team player and teammate,” Chandler said. “She worked very hard at practices and was very positive at all times. Rayna was a pleasure to work with, very coachable and always filled the role assigned to her.”

He believes she will do well at ACC and will fit in with head coach Jeff Maxwell’s program. In an ACC media release, Maxwell praised Schwalm’s float serve.

As well as VCI, Schwalm – a 5-foot-9 middle blocker – played for the Brandon-based Cats Volleyball Club.

“I can’t wait to get started in the fall,” Schwalm said in an ACC media release. “There are a lot of familiar faces on the Cougars team and I can’t wait to play with everyone again.”
