Peewee Elks set to host provincials

The Souris Peewee Elks are coming off a stellar season as they prepare to host the ten-team Hockey Manitoba Provincial Rural ‘B’ Tournament March 13 – 15. Competing teams include Carberry, Hamiota, Teulon, Wawanesa, Shoal Lake/Birtle, McCreary, Holland, Fisher River, Ile Des Chenes, and the Souris Peewee Elks.

The Souris Peewee Elks are coming off a stellar season as they prepare to host the ten-team Hockey Manitoba Provincial Rural ‘B’ Tournament March 13 – 15. Competing teams include Carberry, Hamiota, Teulon, Wawanesa, Shoal Lake/Birtle, McCreary, Holland, Fisher River, Ile Des Chenes, and the Souris Peewee Elks.

The Souris Peewee Elks are in a good position to make a strong showing in their provincial playoffs. They have played a forty game season with a 27 wins, 10 losses, 2 ties and one over time loss. In league play, the Souris Peewee Elks have 13 wins, two losses and one tie.

In playoffs, the Elks defeated Deloraine 2-0 in quarterfinals, Wawanesa 2-0 in semifinals and currently scheduled to play Killarney in League Finals. Killarney finished league in second place two points behind Souris.

In other season highlights, the Peewee Elks lost to Dauphin in quarterfinals of Tournament of Champions in Minnedosa. They also lost in finals of Carman AA tournament & Holland Tournament, hosted a tournament and also attended Wawanesa Tournament.

Some of the best Peewee hockey action will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday, march 13 and run throughout the day. Souris will play their first game at 12:00 noon as they take on Ile Des Chenes. They play again at 6:30 p.m. versus Holland. Opening ceremonies will precede that game. Finals will be held Sunday beginning with the consolation game at 1:00 p.m. followed by the bronze medal game and then the championship game at 4:45 p.m.

Souris Peewee Elks team members including coaching staff include: Head Coach Glen Tosh, Assistant Coaches Ben Williams and Bryan Church, Micha Riffel, Avery Samels, Hayden Turner, Lain Skeoch, Jack Swaenepoel, Trey Penner, Ty Tosh, Tucker Wood, Assistant coach Brock Anderson, Kendrick Breemersch, Manager Loretta Turner, Isaak Klassen, Ethen Church, Nathan McGean, Slater Anderson, Lucas Bowser, Mika Landry-Svetec, Grayson Bennett.
