Now in this third season, Jack Einarson is enjoying another successful campaign with the Virden Oil Capitals.

As a rookie, he had 14 regular season points while helping the Oil Capitals make it to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League finals. Last season he posted 41 points to more than double his output. As of Sunday, the Gimli product was fifth on the team in scoring. He had seven goals and 23 points in 32 games.

“Jack is a very skilled guy who plays in all situations for us,” Virden head coach Tyson Ramsey said. “He sees the ice well and is a great skater. When Jack competes hard, he can be a game changer and he has been a very good player for us this season.”

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Einarson usually plays on a strong line with Hunter Cloutier and Tanner Andrew. Cloutier ranked fifth in the MJHL in points while Andrew was sixth.

The Oil Caps also count on Einarson for leadership. The 19-year-old is an assistant captain. How does he help lead the team?

“I just try and always have a good work ethic no matter what I’m doing and just always having a positive attitude,” Einarson said.

The player, who billets with Doug and Kathi Gatey, likes the camaraderie of the Oil Caps.

“I’ve enjoyed playing on a team that is so close,” Einarson said. “We all get along really well, so everyday when you’re coming to the rink you know your going to have fun.”
