Update to the previously-reported hit and run at the Boston Pizza in Virden on Feb. 19. The driver of the suspect vehicle attended Virden Detachment to claim responsibility. The driver was charged under section 155(2)(a) of the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act as the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident failing to give required information to the driver of another involved vehicle.

March 8:

Westman RCMP responded to a complaint of assault in the town of Oak Lake. Investigation revealed the fight was consensual with no charges being laid in this instance. 

RCMP were notified of a repeat shoplifter at the Petro Canada in Virden. It has been reported that the suspect has been observed on multiple occasions shoplifting beef jerky, pastries, Skittles, and cooler items. Police are reviewing surveillance. 

March 10:

We responded to a complaint of assault in the town of Virden. A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with Assault and Uttering Threats. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Virden Provincial Court. 

A 28-year-old Brandon man was observed travelling 150 km/hr in a posted 100 km/hr zone. The male was given a $705 speeding ticket along with a serious offence notice submitted to Manitoba Public Insurance. 

March 12:

Westman RCMP responded to a complaint of theft of a motor vehicle. A white 2006 GMC Sierra and black cargo trailer were reported to have been stolen overnight from Reston. The trailer was recovered from a residence in the RM of Pipestone a short time later along with a stolen boat from an unrelated matter. The stolen GMC was recovered by Brandon Police Service on March 14. This matter is still under investigation, and police are actively following up. 

RCMP responded to a complaint of theft of a wallet. Investigation revealed that credit cards were utilized at various locations in Brandon and surrounding area. The businesses were contacted and surveillance is being obtained. This matter is still under investigation. 

Officers responded to another vehicle theft in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. A black 2012 Ford F-150 was stolen from a residence, and a grey 2015 Ram truck was left behind and recovered. The Ram was processed for forensic purposes. Police are still actively investigating this matter. 

March 13:

Westman RCMP responded to a complaint of assault at a business in Virden. The female caller reported that she had been assaulted by a male inside the business. Investigation revealed that the female was not assaulted and falsely called in the complaint from Dauphin. The following morning, the female was observed by Westman Traffic Services to be travelling to Virden at 150 km/hr in an unregistered vehicle with a disqualified license. She was arrested for public mischief for providing the false report to police and issued $2,215 in fines along with having her vehicle towed. The woman is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Virden. 

March 14:

At approximately 3:24 a.m. Westman RCMP located an impaired driver on Frontage Road in Virden. The 25-year-old female from the RM of Pipestone provided two breath samples of .110 mg blood alcohol content. She was released from custody on charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle over .80 mg blood alcohol content. She is scheduled to appear in Virden Provincial Court. 

Police received a complaint of theft of a 400–barrel test tank in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. The tank was described as being 20 feet tall and 12 feet in diameter. This matter is currently under investigation. 

March 17:

Westman RCMP responded to a complaint of assault in progress in Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. Investigation revealed a 21-year-old man had assaulted a 45-year-old man by striking him in the head with a shovel. The younger man was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Assault, Uttering Threats, Mischief Under $5,000, and three counts of failing to comply with his probation order. He was held in custody on the charges.
