Clothing and Goods to an Estimated Value of $1,000 Taken by Thieves. Entrance Gained Through Back Window Which Was Smashed and Iron Bar Torn Loose.
Some time during the early part of Friday morning, the Lowden-McCormick store was entered by burglars. A window at the back of the store was smashed and one of a number of iron rods was torn loose, making an opening through which only a small person could get through. After getting into the store it was an easy matter to open the back door and take away the goods.
The thief or thieves stripped the racks of about 40 men’s suits, leaving the hangers on the floor. They also took some boots, shirts, leather belts, a leather club bag and probably other articles to an estimated value of $1,000 or more. The goods were probably taken away in an auto or truck.
That the job was well planned was shown by the fact that a hack saw and iron bar were stolen from a C.P.R. tool house. If the iron bars could not be pried loose, they had the saw to cut them out.
The till was opened but, of course, there was nothing of value to them on it. They also made an attempt to open the safe but had no success.
The provincial police are working on the case and have one or two clues which may result in the arrest of the thieves.
