Foul Play is Possible. Name at Present Unknown.
Inquest Proceeding Under Direction of Dr. Clingan, Coroner.
The body of a foreigner, aged between 40 and 50, was found about 60 feet from the C.P.R. main track, west of Virden, last Friday morning. The police were notified, and Dr. Clingan, Coroner, accompanied by Constable Young, of the Provincial Police, went out to the scene of the fatality and had the body brought to Virden. Deceased was dressed like a laboring man and many think he is the same man, who the day previous, was around town soliciting work as a carpet sweeper expert. Quite a large sum of money was found on his person.
An inquest was started at once and evidence showed that the man had been frightfully battered, and the fact brought out that there was no evidence of his having been thrown from or dragged by a train, would seem to suggest foul play. However, the police have been busy and the inquest is proceeding to-day.
So far, as is known, deceased has no relatives in this country.
