What were you doing 50 years ago? The year was 1967, Canada's 100th birthday, and everyone was trying to do something special to celebrate; just like this year as we celebrated Canada's 150.

At St. Paul's United Church there was a small group of young people, under the leadership of Student Minister Peter Williamson, meeting to discuss “Today's world and its needs”.

From these meetings and discussions came the idea of giving the people of the 21st Century a look at life in the mid-20th Century. It was decided to bury a time capsule containing their thoughts, along with various items of the time, to be opened in 50 years. Our minister at the time was Rev. Sydney Walmsley.

Well, guess what…The 50 years are up, and the youth group from 1967 has been invited back to St. Paul's to open the time capsule and share with all those present, how their thoughts and ideas have turned out in relation to today's world.

We invite anyone who was involved with St. Paul's at this time, or if you know of anyone who might be interested in attending this event, the date is September 9, 2017 to dig up the capsule at 2:00 p.m.; with church service on Sept. 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a cold plate luncheon.

The present day Sunday School is preparing to bury another capsule the same day, but for a shorter period of time.

We are hoping the capsule is intact , but unfortunately no one in the group seems to remember what it was even like. Thus, the digging will take place on Saturday. We will keep our fingers crossed. Hope to see you there.
